New Site address
Have you visited the site lately? We have a new address on the net along with our own domain. http://www.255wpg.org is now where you can find us. Along with the data of the Owasco class cutters we now have a discussion forum, you can send a birthday or other type E-card, Play the Coast Guard word game, or just take a on line test of your Coast Guard knowledge. Be sure to come around and re-visit us soon. Looking forward to seeing you there.
The 3rd ALL 255 Cutter Reunion is rapidly approaching us - May 4 this year in Vegas. If the overwhelming success of Reunion II is any indication of what to expect this time it should be really great. Come to the site for the details. Click on Reunion 2003 on right hand menu of page. We have a block of rooms at a reduced price set aside for us so get yours before they are gone. There are some special airfare rates also available. These details are on the site. While you are at the site you can see the events and pictures of the first two reunions. Click on 1999 and/or 2001 Reunion in the menu.
Any friends that did not sail the 255s - they are invited also. We had several there last reunion and they had as good a time as the rest of us.
We have a brand new sister site that has come on line The Foundation for Coast Guard History, http://www.fcgh.org. Have visit to their site to see what they are all about and give some thought about becoming a member of this worthwhile organization.
Along with FCGH our other two sister sites are Jack's Joint http://www.jacksjoint.com where you can find the best collection of sea stories (a lot of outright lies too) on the internet today. Most of these stories have been submitted by you out there in former Coast Guard land, so if you have a story to tell, send it on to Jack Eckert, who, incidently is a former 255 Sailor. Jack will be at the Reunion with the rest of us.
Next old standby is the Coast Guard History Center
http://www.laesser.org which has been around for about 4 or 5 years. Here you can find out about Coast Guard History from 1790 on, if what you are looking for is not there, email the webmaster and he will attempt to answer it for you.
The webmaster for 255wpg.org, fcgh.org, and laesser.org is Ken Laesser (retired EMCM) and will also will be at the reunion even though he never sailed the 255s (spent his time on those nasty old 311s) Ken is also taking over as webmaster for http://www.cgretirenw.com/index.htm , The web site of The Coast Guard Retiree Council Northwest
