ODE TO THE EASTWIND

Painting and Poem by Martin Sheridan

EASTWIND WAS HER NAME

What is this ship crashing

Through the ice, Is she a ghost?

Eastwind is her name

Of polar seas fame

North or South she would go -

Open seas she rocked and rolled

Into the ice we would go

It held no fear, after all she

Was master of the polar seas.

Cutting butting banging through

Now its done, home we go

Task accomplished by her and crew

Pride we had, give Eastwind her due

At the poles, on the seas

All served with pride and dignity

Did her hitch, payed her dues

Just like us Coasties, tried and true
