AND THIS AINT NO SH _ T!

By Homer Dean

All Sea Stories start out this way ...

Homer sailed on the CGC HAIDA out of Seattle in 1929 ... got out of the Coast Guard in 1934 and opened a gas station. He says he made just about as enough in 60 days to buy a hamburger ... So he re-entered the Coast Guard as a Surfman.

The HAIDA carried a doctor to see to the medical needs of the native population in Alaska. On one trip we picked up a native at False Bay and were going to take him to Seward to the Hospital. It seems the native had been greatly constipated for some time.

After examining the native, our doctor recommended it would be better if surgery were performed immediately.

We laid the Eskimo on the table and the doctor proceeded to lay out the instruments. The native looked at all the knives, etc. laying on the table and immediately became unconstipated!!
