The Hat Rack received hat #700 08 JUL 01 from MST3 Rich Cherkauer; Rick is stationed at the CG Academy and the hat reads USCGA SPECIAL SECURITY. Rich will get a catch of Nantucket Bay Scallops when the season opens in October. Other hats received recently include FRED'S PLACE W/PFD (Khoury), US COAST GUARD AUXILIARY (Phillips), USCGC BOLLARD (BMCS Winterbottom), USCGC MARCUS HANNA (CWO Dickey), CCGS ALERT (BM1 Pigeon), USCGC PT. HOBART (BMCS Tallman), and USCGC SPAR (BM2 Stefanovich).

CWO Mike (Paul) Blank (Ret) is happily making furniture down Maine way.

CDR Doug Russell attended BMCM Downey's PCO/PXO school at the Academy and is the XO of CGC HEALY. CDR Pam Russell is the Resource Manager in D13.

Discovered that the CGC HENRY BLAKE hat came from FS2 Jay Langley - thanks! It was #687.

BMCM Manny Fillman retired off CGC HAMMERHEAD on 11 MAY 01.

Station Brant Point had the daffodil wreath up on Brant Point Light for Nantucket's Daffodil Weekend in April.

BMC Shiela Lucy, ANT Woods Hole, received the Meritorious Service Medal on 23 APR 01, while Maurice Gibbs and Doug Bingham received Public Service Commendations. Chief Lucy was very surprised to see many family and friends in the audience.

CDR Keith Bills (former CO, POINT BONITA) has been "found" in New Orleans.

The Hat Rack Committee ruled that the OCEANUS hat received from BMC Tony Mello (Ret) is not a real Coast Guard hat. Chief Mello is Captain of OCEANUS, and his brother BMC Mark Mello is XCPO at Fort Pierce.

CGC NANTUCKET has been busy, receiving 109 migrants in one week and over 600 since JUN 00. They also rescued 9 survivors from a downed Cuban aircraft. LT Devel will take command on 15 JUN 01.

LT McMahon took Command of CGC STURGEON BAY on 22 JUN 01, relieving LCDR Gimple.

MKCM Tim Pitts stoped by the Anglers' Club for lunch on 20 MAY 01 and MKC Bryan Bayrd (Ret) stopped by later in the day to practice on the ring game. Chief Bayrd has been working on A/C at the Loran Station.

Station Chatham has a new 27' MLB which can get tp 55 MPH and is shallow draft. It's in Stage Harbor.

CGC IDA LEWIS made a quick stop in the Republic near the end of May but Cabin Bay missed them.

MKC Bryan Bayrd got whipped on the ring game 5-0, but he did beat Cabin Boy at bumper pool.

YN1 Izzy Keppner made the YNC cut but will stay put so her children don't have to move (again).

CGC SANIBEL and Brant Point teamed up on a medivac in early June while a CG helo did another.

The former CGC MARCUS HANNA is now the RONC RING OF FIRE. CWO Dickey lost 5-0 and MK1 Jeff Sonia went down trying to help his CO, 5-1, 5-3, and 5-2.

Emma Ray DeCola, a Nantucket House creation, was born to LCDR and Mrs. DeCola in May.

The former CGC BOLLARD left the Republic as the RONC MIGHTY WARSHIP thanks to BMCS Winterbottom.

The D7 publicaion printed its last issue in May 01. It was a good read.

George H. Bassett III was presented with the Unimportant People on Nantucket Society's annual scholarship recently. He is the son of CWO4 George H. Bassett, Jr. (Ret).

CAPT Murray will take Command from CAPT Webster, at Nobska Light, on 27 JUL 01. CAPT Webster will be going to Boston.

BM1 Dautel was stationed at Brant Point 13 years ago when he and a friend pulled 6 people from a rip tide at Cisco Beach. It is expected that this feat will soon be recognized.

BMCS Gordie McClay and family visited the Republic on 05 JUL 01 for a day trip.
