SEASONS GREETINGS TO ONE AND ALL FROM THE REPUBLIC OF NANTUCKET COAST GUARD
MKC Bryan Bayrd (Ret) is still in collage down east, aiming for a law degree.
BMC Mark Stauffer, OIC CGC Shackle, will be heading to a new job, OIC STA Boothbay Harbor next summer.
CWO4 Dick Rainville (Ret) is living in Palmetto, FL. MKCS Rich Fichter's daughter is married to his son.
CWO4 Kevin Alway (Ret) works for a shipping company on the Great Lakes. He met a former 5th grade student of Cabin Boy's, Henry Terry, who is the chief engineer on a 1000' ore carrier.
Chief Jay Jenson, USN (Ret), and his lovely wife Bette returned to Maine after a wonderful visit to Nantucket. Soon after they arrived home, they both fell ill, but are on the road to recovery.
A tornado spared STA Port Canaveral in October, much to the relief of CWO Mary Ward.
The Friends of the Flying Santa enjoyed a 75th Anniversary dinner on 13 NOV at USCG Base Boston.
Former BM3 Steve Bilodeau served at LORSTA Nantucket in 1981 when there were 20 people stationed there. There are 4 stationed there now.
Commandant Tom Collins, D1 ADM David Pekoske, and Group Commander CAPT Judith Keene were on hand at 0745 hours on 29 OCT to present STA Brant Point with their second Sumner Kimball Readiness Award in less than a year. The crew scored an unbelievable 49 out of a possible 50 points this time. Other notables included BMCS Mark Mello, OIC, STA Cape Cod Canal; BMCS Gordie McClay, Group Woods Hole; and CWO4 Rick Hersey (Ret).
SGT Stipe, USA (Ret), sent along Coast Guard hats #771 & 772. They are USCGC ADELIE, WPB 87333, and USCGC WAHOO, WPB 87345.
BMC Mark Stauffer sent hats #773 & 774. They are US COAST GUARD M&R UNIT, SO. PORTLAND, and U.S. COAST GUARD STA BOOTHBAY HARBOR.
CAPT WC Nolan's 50th anniversary CGA classmates joined him for a trip to Plimoth Plantation and MAYFLOWER II, a cookout at Nobska Light and a day trip on IDA LEWIS complete with helo ops and a Falcon fly-by. They finished a long weekend with more festivities at the Academy in New London. More recently, CAPT Nolan was joined by CAPT Hruska and BMCM Fillman to put his MV MARIAH to sleep for the winter.
STA Brant Point again had the large Xmas wreath up on Brant Point Light and an outstanding Main Street Xmas tree. The tree was on the culling board of a small scallop boat, complete with an A frame and dredges. The tree was decorated with scallop shells surrounded by fancy ropework. CWO4 George Bassett (Ret) and BMC Ron "Rubberbutt" Chapman were seen guarding the tree during the Xmas Stroll/Crawl.
