THE SHORTEST STORY

Author Unknown

Many years ago when the late Admiral Edwin Roland was an Ensign, he was OD on a destroyer. They were watching a "rummy" anchored outside the three mile limit. They weren't allowed to catch him until he came inside the limit.

It got real foggy about one or two o'clock in the morning and they lost sight of the "rummy."

His log read:

0201 -- Heard suspect start his engines.

0202 -- Test fired three inch.

0203 -- Heard suspect engines stop.
