Subject: Good Evening Jack

Hi Jack - I'm not sure if you know him but Ken Black, "Mr. Lighthouse", as we know him has been hospitalized for the past week.  Ken had a bad fall at a lighthouse event on Cape Cod in May and seemed to be doing well until doctors discovered he had some fluid on his brain.  He was taken by ambulance to Portland, Maine for emergency surgery on June 28th, the day before his 81st birthday.  The doctors did remove the fluid and hopefully he is on the road to recovery, but I am told that he still needs our prayers.

Ken is the founder and director of the Shore Village Museum in Rockland, Maine which is devoted entirely to lighthouse lenses, foghorns, bells and other artifacts from the U.S. Lighthouse Service and the U.S. Coast Guard.  I believe Ken has the largest collection of these artifacts anywhere in the United States.  I'm not sure of his ranks in the Coast Guard but I know he did serve as OIC of a lightship and held many other positions while in the Guard.

I would greatly appreciate if you would publish this story in your website somewhere with Ken's home address so that some of his friends and acquaintances from the Coast Guard could send him some get well or friendship cards!  I am sure hearing from other members of the CG will certainly help to lift his spirits and help him on the road to good health!

Ken's address:
Ken Black
174 Sennebec Rd.
Union, Maine  04862

All my best,
Paul Conlin
